Contest Weigh In Date!

Well, the weight loss contest ended today between Jordan Resch, Anna Resch, Robert Resch, and Karina Lindsay and myself. Guess who won?....Robert did!! But, keep in mind it was only by .8%!! I was right on his heels by losing a total of 40.11% in body fat in 46 weeks (a total of 117.2 lbs!). I must admit it....I ROCK!

Recollections

As most of you know, my weight loss has slowed down a bit. But after losing 113.4 lbs, mind you all in less than 9 months, it was bound to happen. Now I'm looking back and wondering how on earth that much time slipped past me so quickly when the first 3 weeks of the diet were miserable!

Now I'm here to address answers to the questions I receive the most of lately.

The first and foremost questions I am asked are:

1. How did you do this?!
2. Was it difficult?
3. How much exercise and dedication did this diet take?
4. What is the Dukan Diet?
5. What motivated you to lose over 100 lbs?

So, to answer #1: I lost the weight following the Dukan Diet. To answer what the Dukan Diet is, please refer to answer #4.

Answer #2: Yes, it was difficult at first. But every diet is!! Your body is expelling all the bad things out and you're replacing them all with good things. So you do go through what I call a food withdrawal. At week 1, you're motivated as all get out. You're doing great and nothing can stop you! Week 2 you're starting to think: "How can I live like this with eating all this meat?! Sure I love chicken, but for every meal?" Then comes week 3 and you're wanting to eat all the cookies, brownies, hash browns, and toast you can fill yourself up with. Then comes week 4....through the end of your diet. That's right folks. The cravings subside. You looked at your diet differently. You get creative and start using different spices. You discover you can have sugar free, fat free chocolate pudding and indulge on your sweet tooth every now and again. You realize the oat bran can be made into cookies, oat meal mush, and you finally have perfected the waffle recipe. Instead of wanting hash browns and sausage for breakfast, you find yourself wanting some Canadian bacon and boiled eggs. You find you're not hungry at all and at times have to remind yourself to take a lunch break at work. Trust me folks, it's a breeze once you've gotten past week 3.

Answer #3: Well, according to Dr. Peirre Dukan, he asks you to take a 30-40 minute walk every day. Well, some days this was a breeze! Especially in the summer when I'd take my kids for a 2-5 mile hike a couple times a week with my little one strapped to my back. Fall time it was easy as well since it is my favorite season and I love going for walks. Now winter is here and it is cold. But I love taking walks in the snow as it's falling (which hasn't happened yet where I live). So, on those days when I don't have time to walk or the weather is horrible, I stick on a Pilates, yoga, or aerobic workout and workout for as long as I have time for. Sometimes that is only 10 minutes and sometimes it is a good 45 minutes. I have 2 kids, so sometimes it's difficult to steal a moment away from the kids. I have found the best thing to do is involve them in your exercise. What better way to teach your kids than to get them involved at a young age? So you don't have to join a gym and spend crazy amount of time away from work, life, and family to get fit and healthy.

Answer #4: The Dukan Diet is a lean protein based diet. There are 4 phases to this diet. Phase #1 is called the Attack Phase (only pure protein). This phase lasts between 5-12 days depending on how much you need to lose. I was on this phase for 6 days. Phase 2 is Cruise. This phase lasts until you lose all the weight you desire to lose. So for me this phase lasted from mid February till early November. You toggle between pure protein days and protein + veggies. Phase 3 is Consolidation. This phase lasts 5 days per pound lost. So I'm on this phase for 565 days. Yes, I know that is over a year! On this phase you introduce fruit, grain, and a celebratory meal back into your diet. A celebratory meal is just saying you can have 1 cheat meal (not day!) per week. So you can have that cheesecake at your friend's birthday party, or the slice of pizza at your kids baseball party, or what not. But, you must be careful you don't let these meals take over you again. They are meant to a congratulations and not an indulge and binge. You also have a pure protein day every 3rd day. Phase 4 is Stabilization. This phase lasts for the rest of your life. That's right, this diet is a lifestyle change! In this phase you chose 1 day out of the week for the rest of your life that will be a protein day. On the other days you keep you main course to lean proteins and complement them with fruits, whole grains, and an occasional celebratory meal. For more information on this diet, go to: www.mydukandiet.com. Or you can order the book.

Answer #5: What motivated me were two pairs of bright blue eyes who watched their mommy day in and day out making some not very good health choices. Yes, it was my kids. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I had gestational diabetes. Now, if you've ever had this or known anyone who has, you might know this is a 50% chance once you've had gestational diabetes you'll have Type 2 later in life. I did have to give myself insulin shots while pregnant, and even though this sounds terrible, it wasn't the end of my world. I was actually okay with that. Why, you ask? Well, because I knew it was a means to an end. I wasn't diagnosed with Type 2, just gestational. Once my little was born, no more shots and no more pricking my finger 6+ times a day. But, the thought of having to do that all the time...well, that is another story. I watched my grandmother struggle with diabetes for 26 years. It was difficult for her, since she loved bread and German chocolate cake. I have also watched my mother-in-law struggle with diabetes and also lose 1/2 her leg to it as well. So, the fear of dealing with Type 2 and having my children worry about me when they're older is unbearable to me. Especially considering Type 2 is avoidable!! Another factor was thinking about my childrens' future. I have struggled with weight my entire life. Even as a kid I was chunky. I am a confident, at times a little outspoken, woman. But I did have issues with being larger in high school. I didn't date nearly as much as my siblings did. I never went to Homecoming, or Jr. Prom. In theater I was never selected to be the Eugene. I was always the old mother or a stingy doctor/nurse. I never played true to my age and was always cast as an older character. This isn't terrible or world ending, but it was still hard to deal with. Had I been slimmer, I would've had a real shot at a part I longed for. So, knowing what I went through, would I wish this for my own kids? Nope. Never. I want them to feel great and comfortable with who they are and never question why they were cursed with a larger body (when all I had to do was cut out soda and eat better). Studies show that children who have obese parents are 50% more likely to be obese at the age of 14. How could I condemn my children to this? I simply can't and won't. With bad heart genes on hubby's side of the family, not to mention diabetes, I can't wish this on my kids. So, all in all, it was my children who kept me motivated. It helps that I have a 2 year old who loves to hike as well :o)

So, all in all, anyone can do this diet. Anyone who can put there mind to it and look at things in the longer scheme. So, if you want more information, let me know and I'll give you what I have.

Reward!

Well, my last reward I listed for myself was family pictures! Well, here they are! Of course I met my goal a little while ago, but my amazing sister took the pictures and has a very busy life as a stay at home mother of 2. So, thanks a million Liz for taking these great pictures for me!!

Since these pics were taken, I've lost another 10 lbs! That's right people, I'm still a going. I've lost a total now of 112.4 lbs. I'm maintaining and losing a little here and there still. I love this diet and I'm so glad I've done it! My life has been changed as well as my family's. I couldn't be any happier!

Also note how good my hubby looks! He's lost 67 lbs on this diet as well. My kids, as you can see, are just as healthy as they can be! I feed them pretty much what I eat (just without restrictions on fruits and grains). Well balanced, that is the key.

Weekly Update

Well, I slacked off a little this week on updating the blog! Sorry!! I've been terribly busy and I've finally managed to catch a minute before midnight!  Well, last week wasn't the ground breaker of my diet, but I maintained. After losing over 2lbs the week before, it stands to reason I'd stay the same a week to allow my body to "catch up". So, having said that, I still have 1.6 lbs to lose before I've met my goal. SO CLOSE!!!

Monday, October 1, 2012

Weekly Update

I'm so close now!! I've lost 2.4 lbs this week! For a running total of: 105.2!! I have less than 2lbs to lose to my first weight goal!! So excited!! I should be able to hit this within a week or two. And then I'll keep going until my body decides to even out. But, that won't stop me from posting pictures when I hit the goal of 185lbs! I can't believe I've made it this far and in less than a year. It's is truly amazing. Especially considering I've had two babies! I'm in pre-kid sizes right now.

The other day I went to the store to try some clothes on. I grabbed a size 14 and size 12 pant thinking one size would fit for certain. Low and behold, I picked out two sizes that were too big! I had to go find a pair of pants in a size 10!! I haven't been a size 10 since 2006!! Go me!

Weekly Update

So, I'm still in the game! I lost another 1.6 lbs! For a running total of....drum roll please....103.4 lbs!!! Yay me!!

I'm still losing, still eating right, and still focusing on my health. Until I plateau, I'm going to keep going. I am only 3.6lbs away from my original goal. *Shrills running throughout my veins!*

FYI, when I hit my original goal, a new picture will be posted!

Monday, September 17, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I've done it!! I've passed the 100 lbs mark! Yay me!!! I lost 2.8 lbs this week for a total of 101.2 lbs in 31 WEEKS! That's right, I've lost 101.8 lbs in 31 WEEKS! That is totally awesome! If you do the math, that means I've averaged 3.28 lbs per week. That's not shabby at all.

If you've noticed, it is taking a little longer to lose the weight now. I know, I know, I've done pretty good. But it is slowing down. I'm getting skinny and that means there is less of me to lose. I'm still aiming to go past the initial goal of 185 lbs, but when I even out, that's where I'll gladly stay. I'm happy, healthy, and feel great.

Monday, September 10, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I didn't do terrible, but this week wasn't my best either. I lost 1 lbs this week for a total of 98.6 lbs in 30 weeks. Not too shabby, I must say, but I wish I could lose about 2+ lbs per week. But I knew it was going to get harder. I just have to keep motivated and keep trudging. Well, here's to next week!

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I lost 2.8 lbs! So now I've lost a total of 98 lbs!! Wow, that is a lot of weight! I am only 9 lbs away from my initial goal, but I'd like to announce I'm going a little further than first planned. Why you ask? Well, at first 107 lbs seemed like a lot of weight to lose, and in all reality, it IS a ton of weight to lose. I was about 185lbs when I got pregnant with Sarah years ago, and I looked pretty good then. But just like then and now, I know I can do better. So I'd like to get around 155-160lbs range. Now of course this may or may not be doable. I've had 2 babies, and 2 c-sections. I'm 28 years old, which isn't old, but it's not young either. So my body may just want to even out at 180 or 175 or 170 and if I'm lucky, 155. We'll just have to take it step by step, day by day, week by week, and see how things go. If I plateau for a month, well then, I do believe that is where my body wishes to stay. So, having said that, I'm continuing to trudge on and work hard and eat healthy. I feel great and I'm beginning to look great too. Come this Christmas, you may not recognize me any more!

Monday, August 27, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I've lost another 1 lbs! Not too bad! I don't feel terribly well today, but I know the week will get better! I am a firm believer when you feel like crap you don't have a good weigh in. Mainly because when you feel crappy the last thing you want to do is step on the scale. But, I did and I lost 1 lbs! Not too bad considering I did so well last week. However, this week will be tons better. I am motivated!

Monday, August 20, 2012

Weekly Update

So, I've done really good this week! 27 weeks into this wonderful diet I've lost 4lbs for a total of 93.8 lbs!! That is the most I've ever lost on any diet I've ever done! Before I had Sarah, I had lost 92 lbs. So, I'm still going strong and despite Robert's (my bro-in-law) claim that I've plateaued, I have news for you....I HAVEN'T!!! 4 lbs in one week this late into the diet is AWESOME!!!I am totally going to win the $250 come this December 21st!!

Bring it week 28!!

Monday, August 13, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, slap my hand!! I was gone in Alaska for two weeks and I wasn't able to update my blog. It seems like forever, though, no?  Anyway, while in Alaska I did very good, I thought. I was gone in Denali for 3 days, then went to Juneau for a day, then fishing for a week in Excursion Inlet. After that, I spent another day in Juneau. So, having informed you of all that, you can see I didn't have very many means of variety of food. I did gain 2.5 lbs, but once I got home, I went back on the attack phase for 6 days. I then lost all that gained weight, plus 1.8 lbs for a total of 4.3 lbs lost in one week! Not too shabby! I'm now down 89.8 lbs!!! Eeks, I am so close!!

Monday, July 16, 2012

Weekly Update

I've lost another 2 lbs this week. So happy with the results. I've had to go back to work full time, which means I'm not as active as when I'm at home. I do try and do what I can, but it's harder. I was in The Relay for Life this week, and I think that helped because I walked 2 hours in the heat of the day. It was a blast! Even though it was hot and humid, I felt so much better this year than I did relaying last year. That's because I am 84 lbs lighter!!

Monday, July 9, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, this last week was great! I lost 3.6 lbs for a total of 82.8 lbs in 22 weeks! Yay me! I plan on losing more and more! I'm getting really close to my goal! Since it took me some time to post my picture of my -75lbs, here they are.

Monday, July 2, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, last week I was enjoying myself at Bear Lake for the week. I weighed in a day early and lost 2.4lbs that week for a total of 76.8lbs lost in 20 weeks! Yay! So I weighed in today and lost another 2.2lbs this week for a running total of 79.4 lbs in 21 weeks! Yay me again!! I am getting so close! I will post pictures soon when I can get someone to take some of me.

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Weekly Update

I know I am a day late, sorry. I was at my wonderful grandpa's funeral yesterday and didn't have time to log on and update. But, I'm here now. I lost 2.4 lbs this week. I am so close to my 75 lbs goal! I am at a total of 74.4 lbs in 19 weeks. I've done some pretty amazing stuff, no? I plan on hitting my 75 lbs goal this week!

Monday, June 11, 2012

Week 18 Update

Well, 18 weeks into the diet and I'm down another 4.6 lbs! I can't believe my weight loss didn't slow down this week, at least a little bit. I had prepared myself for it. But, I won't complain! I've now lost a total of 72 lbs! Only 3 lbs more before I hit my 75 lbs weight loss goal! And a new picture, too! Jordan's maintaining and I'm very proud of him. He's lost 62 lbs total and his body seems to want to stay right where he's at and it's a good, healthy weight for him. Each week I'm getting closer and closer to my ultimate goal and I can't tell you how excited and proud I am. This diet is simple in concept, but at times can be hard. When others are BBQing and eating fresh fruits and potato salads, I'm cooking up a lean steak or chicken and joining in. I beleive the success in this diet comes from being prepared. If you bring your own food to functions and get togethers, then there is no limit to how far you can go. All in all, YAY ME!!

Monday, June 4, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I lost another 3.2 lbs this week! Yay me!! I was even at Cottonwood this week and stuck to the diet. The results prove it! I'm so glad the lbs just keep going off. I hope this trend continues. I know the more weight I lose, the more difficult it's going to get (and the slower, too). But, I'm resilient and will persist. Now I've lost a total of 67 lbs in 17 weeks! That averages to be 3.94lbs per week. Not too shabby at all! And I've only got 8lbs more before my 75lbs weight loss goal of a new exercise outfit!

Monday, May 28, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, this week was better than last week. I lost 3.4 lbs! Now I've lost a total of 63.8 lbs in 16 weeks! Whoot! I'll keep on trecking and doing my best. I have 11.2 lbs till I reach my 75 lbs goal and 43.4 lbs until I reach my final goal!! Yeah!!!!

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, another week and nothing lost. All well. After 2 great weeks in a row, it happens. Next week will be tons better!! Jordan lost 1 lbs this week. Good for him!

Monday, May 14, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, another week and another 6lbs down the drain!! Yay me! I've been terribly busy in the show, The Music Man, but that hasn't stopped me from doing my best to lose the weight. Now officially I'm down 60.6lbs and I plan on losin' more and more! Here's to another great week!

Monday, May 7, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, it's official....I've lost more than 50 lbs in 13 weeks!!!! Woot!!! To date, I've lost 54.6 lbs! Jordan's done really well also. He's lost 59lbs in 13 weeks. He's now moving onto phase 3 of the diet. I'm still on phase 2 and will be for a while still. However, I'm optomistic and happy to have accomplish as much as I have in such a short amount of time! Below are my -50lbs pictures. You can see the difference!

Monday, April 30, 2012

Weekly Update Week 12

Well, week 12 wasn't too shabby. I lost 3.4lbs and Jordan lost 5 lbs. Jordan is officially under his dukan diet target weight of 208 (now weighing in at 201) and he wants to lose about 5 more lbs before he moves onto phase 3. I still have a ways to go, but I feel great and I'm losing weight. Only 1 more lbs and I reach my 50 lbs goal!!! Yeah!!!

Monday, April 23, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, just down a pound. But a pound off is a pound gone!! So, yay me! Jordan lost 4 lbs this week. But he didn't do so swell this last week since he gained a pound. So, just goes to show cheating on the diet is not advised and you will gain weight back.

Anyway, here's to a better next week. I don't know why, but the last couple of days I've woken up with swollen hands. I guess it's this hot weather we're having. So, anyway, I think I'm a little bloated. I guess I better drink more water to get my body to regulate itself somehow. But, I do drink 8+ cups a day already. All well....better luck next time :o)

Monday, April 16, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I did it! I lost 7.4 lbs this last week! So much better than 0 lbs like last week. Just goes to show, if you have one bad week, you can't let it bring you down. You have potential, even when you've been on the diet for 2 1/2 months as I have. You can still lose a lot of weight without starving or spending hours at the gym every day. Just eat healthy, stay active, and you can achieve great things.

Only 5.4 lbs to go and I hit my 50 lbs weight goal. That means new pictures and a new shirt! Yay me!

I'm not sure what Jordan lost. If he told me this morning I can't remember. On a side note, Jordan has lost so much weight, he lost his wedding ring. Yep, slid right of his finger and now it's lost. So, if you by chance happen to find a white gold wedding band, please let us know!

Monday, April 9, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I knew the day would come. It always does. Sometimes it takes a few weeks into the diet, sometimes a few months. So I lost nothing...but I gained nothing. So, having said that, I did good. I think I may do the attack phase again and just eat protiens to re-jump start my diet.

Jordan lost 8 lbs this week, but considering he only lost 1 lbs the week before, it makes sense. So good job hun!!! Keep up the good work. If you have a minute and a heart, send some of that diet mojo this way please! :o)

Monday, April 2, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, this week I've lost......drumroll....5 lbs! Yay!! This is great for being in the diet 2 months now. I'd like to lose this much every week, hehe. But, I know it fluctuates and things go little by little at times. But, no complaints here. I'm not sure what Jordan lost, as he left for work before 4 am and I'm not sure whether I was not awake enough to hear him or he didn't wake me up. So, just guessing, I think he beat me out. We've both been working hard in the yard getting it ready for spring planting.

Well, bring it week 9!

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, last week was good! I lost 4 lbs and Jordan lost the same! I totally earned my new shoes!! I'll go shopping for them soon. I can't wait!!! I want to start bicycling and speed walking/jogging. Now the weather is better it's a lot easier to go outside and workout. I love spring!!! Week 8, here I come!!

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, this week was a little harder for me to get out and workout. But, having said that, I did get up and do things. I did walk, and I did some workout videos. I just wasn't as intense as normal. This showed since I only lost 2.4 lbs. But, I'm glad for what I've lost this week amid the craziness of life. I've been sewing my costumes for the Music Man and I've been Mommy to two kidos at home. That keeps me going, going, going. So, I'll do better this week, and continue to persevere. I only have 1.6 more lbs to go until I get walking shoes!! YEAH!!

Oh, and Jordan lost 7 lbs. He has like 30 more pounds to go and he moves onto Phase 3. Good job, Hun!

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I've done it! I've lost 26lbs in 5 weeks!! Yeah!!! Recalling my goals/rewards post, I only 4 more lbs to loose and I get a new pair of walking/running shoes! I'm excited about that. I've been holding a $20 gift card to Famous Footwear for nearly a month now and soon I'll get to use it :o).

Since I've lost the 25lbs, it's time for new pictures. I realize I still have a ways to go, but I'm getting there slowly, but surely. So, pictures are posted for me to visually see my own progress.

The next profile pictures will be taken when I loose 50lbs total. I know then I will look significantly different than I do now and even from when I started this diet. I'm excited for those photos.

Jordan has lost 5 lbs this week and a total of 30lbs. So happy for him!!! He is very active at work, but normally would come home and "relax". I've noticed he watches less TV and is more active at home as well now. Great!!! The kids are enjoying the walks I take them on, as well as Daisy. The weather is turning warmer and I'm always excited to go walking on a nice sunny day.

Here comes week 6 of the diet. I realize I may not lose much this week, taking into consideration I lost nearly 5 lbs this week, so I'll work hard and take what I can get. I'm grateful for the progress I've made thus far.

Nothing good ever comes easy.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I've lost 3.2 lbs this week and Jordan lost 3 lbs. Both really good! I've lost a total of 21.6 lbs in 4 weeks. That's really good. I feel good, too. My clothes are more loose, I feel more energized, and I'm not hungry. That's what I really like about the Dukan Diet. I'm not hungry.

Well, only 3.4 more lbs before I take my -25lbs picture!! Then everyone can see what a difference 25lbs makes. I realize I'm not a beauty queen yet, but I'll get there pound by pound.

I'm in a musical, The Music Man, and I want to lose at least 40lbs total by opening night. Opening night is May 10th, so I have a few more weeks to lose 18.4 lbs. I know the pounds will come off a little slower now, but they'll come off regardless. I need to stick to the diet and keep going, day by day if I have to.

I've stepped up my workout to level two of the Jillian Michaels workout. It's much harder and I am sore, once again. I thought I was getting into better shape. Haha, leave it to me to think that and then step it up a level with Jillian Michaels. Seriously, she kicks your butt. I can't say it enough.

Bring it week 5!

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, Jordan has beat me out. He lost 7lbs this week and I've lost a total of 4.2 lbs. Both are really good. Jordan's been working hard after work on the basement, so it makes sense he's lost more weight. Not to mention, he hasn't had two babies either :o). Good for him. I'm proud of him and of myself.

The diet gets easier and easier with time. I really don't crave many things anymore. I still have a sweet tooth, but gum and Crystal Light tame it. I workout every day too. Sometimes it is really hard to find the time or to even motivate myself to workout, but I know it is for the best so in goes the DVD and on goes the exercise clothes and off I go sweating and working out. Sarah will even join in with me, it is sure cute to watch her doing jumping jacks and situps with me. What a little motivator she is.

Here's to hoping next week will be just as successful! I've lost a total of 18.4 lbs in three weeks. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Weekly Update

Well, I've lost another 4 lbs! That makes 14 lbs total to date. Great, right?

I've got to admit I've worked out much harder this week. I've continued the walking, but added in some aerobics as well. I thought I'd lose more than 4 lbs, and admittedly was a little disappointed, but when I began to think about, decided 4 lbs isn't that bad. It's good. I could be stuck right where I was 2 weeks ago and 14 lbs heavier. So, all in all, I'm proud of myself. Although, I've stepped up the workouts for this week.

I've also discovered something else this past week: Workout videos at home are very effective.

Fact: Jillian Michaels kicks you butt!! Her workout videos are wonderful and they literally kick your butt into gear. If you think you're in shape, than try out one of her videos and you're sure to find you're anything but in shape. So, needless to say, I'm planning on losing pounds each week as long as I stick to walking and a Jillian Michaels workout.

So, onto week 3. I'm excited to see the pounds coming off and I'm looking forward to this summer where I won't be afraid to wear a swimsuit in front of everyone :o)

Mid Week Update

Well, this week has been pretty good. Even though I dieted through Valentine's Day, I think Jordan and I have done very well. We stuck to the diet and didn't bend the rules just because of Valentines. We had salmon fillets, shrimp, asparagus, broccoli, and water to drink. The kids loved the salmon and the shrimp, too. I shared mine with them since the salmon fillets were huge. Jordan sure knows how to cook up a great salmon fillet.

I've been working out a little harder this week. Last week I added walking and stairs back into my exercise regiment (considering I didn't have one before). Now I've added in aerobics and boy-o-boy I am sore. I'm so out of shape!! Well, give me a week or so and I'll be so much better :o)!

I am looking forward to weigh in day on Monday!! I hope to lose another 5 lbs this week, but come what may. I work hard and eat right and do the best I can. The pounds will come off as they see fit.

I am in a show, The Music Man, and would like to lose at least 30 lbs total before the show in May. So, here's to more hard work, eating right, and staying active!!

Weigh In Day!

My weigh in days are Mondays, but they are so hard to blog on. Tuesdays, however, are a great day for me to record my endeavors. So, drum roll......I lost a total of 10.2 lbs in 1 week! Just by eating right and walking 20-30 minutes per day.

Now I am onto Phase 2: Cruise. On this stage I add in veggies. But, I only eat veggies every other day, not every day. And I can't eat every veggie out there, either. Avocados, for example, aren't allowed. Not that I mind, I don't like avocados. There is a list of 100 allowed foods. My diet will remain in the Cruise Phase until I reach my goal of 185 lbs. I'd like to loose a little less, but 185 is a great place for me as well. When I weigh 185, I'm wearing a size 10/12 pant size. Perhaps if all goes well, I'll continue on to go to 165lbs. That's really skinny for me.

So, now I am only 20 lbs away from getting those new walking shoes!!! And I'm 15 lbs away before I take another picture. So excited!!!

Total Weight Loss: 10.2 lbs
Current Weight: 282
% Body Fat Lost: 3.49%

New Favorite Recipe:

Balsamic Vinaigrette
5 Tbs Balsamic Vinegar
1 Tbs Dijon mustard
1 tsp cold pressed olive oil
1 tsp fresh chopped basil
1 garlic clove

Mix all together, save the garlic clove. Add clove and let rest and chill 2-3 hours before serving. Yum!!

Remember: We eat to live, not live to eat!

Goals and Rewards

Every good diet has rewards...right? At least in my world they do. So, I've set myself some goals and rewards once I reach those goals. The rewards have a few rules, however. None of the rewards can be based around food (I am trying to loose the weight here, not put it back on!). The rewards also have to be something I can look forward to.

Goal 1: -30 lbs
Reward: New walking shoes. Self explanatory. I need a good pair to keep me a goin'.

Goal 2: -50 lbs
Reward: 1 new article of clothing (I don't plan on buying anything new [bras don't count here ladies!!!] until I've reached my goal. So, for the duration of the diet I'll be shopping at the DI/Salvation Army. I know this sort of stinks, but at the same time, why buy clothes that won't fit for long? Makes sense...no?)

Goal: -75 lbs
Reward: New exercise outfit

Goal: -107lbs
Reward: New family pictures! Yeah!! I love getting family pictures and I'll be even more excited when I'm looking great.

Great goals/rewards, no? I'm already looking forward to them!!! My first weigh-in, T-Minus 4 days.

Philosophies and Facts...

So, through the days and years I've dieted before, I've come up with different philosophies and facts. It's about time I've shared some with you.

Key:
P=Philosophy
F=Fact

P: You're going to live each day of your life minute by minute, hour by hour. Sometimes from meal to meal. So, diet from meal to meal. Eventually it becomes easier and then turns into second nature.

F: It takes 22 days to create a new habit. It takes years to create a lifestyle.

P: The foods you crave at the beginning of a diet become less and less appetizing the longer you don't eat them. You can 'trick' your mind to believe these foods taste gross.

F: If you live an unhealthy lifestyle, you'll be unhealthy.

P: If you're overweight, chances are your children will be as well. Setting habits and patterns into motion is the best way to teach your children the right way to eat and live. So, my children's future, I am doing this.

There are more, but this is enough for now :o).

Pictures

Taken on 02/07/2012
Looking at your picture is just a terrible reminder of how far you've let yourself slide down that slippery slope. Yes foods taste good. Yes foods are meant to be eaten...just not in excess. Here are my starting pictures. I'll update my pictures when I've lost 25 lbs. Then 50 Lbs. Then 75 lbs and then when I hit my goal! Yeah!!! This is a great way for me to visually see my progress as well as you. I sure hope my next picture pops up here soon!!

Day One

Well, today is the first day of a new way of life, diet wise, that is. I've calculated my weight, which is honestly really embarrassing. I can't believe I've let myself get to this stage...yet again. Well, here's to NEVER going back!!! Yes, I can do this! Yes I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
Plan:
Day One: Attack Phase (292.2 lbs)
Lean, High Protein Diet. No soda, no bread, no veggies, no fruit, no cheese, no nuts...you get the point. Anyway, I can still eat plenty of good things for the next 6 days. Eggs, canadian bacon, greek non-fat yogurt, oat bran, non-fat cottage cheese, skim milk, chicken, fish, shrimp, and any lean meat there is. Not bad, eh? And, Phase 1 only lasts 6 days. I CAN do this!!! I'll report the weight loss next Monday and let you know in a day or so how the Attack Phase is treating me. I'm hoping well!! I hope a few pounds well!! I do plan on walking 20+ minutes a day around my neighborhood. It has a good 'track' to walk around (slopes, inclines, flat, and in a nice rectangle shape around the houses.) I can take the kids and the dog and not feel guilty I've left them behind to go to the gym. (Another perk of the diet: Dukan recommends you use what you have. I have a great neighborhood outside to walk around, hiking trails just right behind my house, and workout videos at home. Use what you have.)

Dukan Diet Pre-Stage

So, I am starting this new diet, called the Dukan Diet. It's based off the research of a French doctor. The science seems pretty sound to me and I am excited to be doing this. After all the diets I've done where I've lost a lot of weight, it hasn't taken too long to gain it all back. Hopefully with this diet, I'll keep it off forever and adjust my survival weight to a healthy, maintainable weight.

There are 4 phases to this diet. Phase 1: Attack. This is where I'll sort of shock my body into diet mode, but I won't add strenuous exercise into the diet. Just 20 minutes of walking a day. Can do. I'll eat healthy, lean meats and proteins. I can enjoy non-fat dairy products as well. No fruit, no carbs (except the 1 tbs of oat bran a day). Attack Phases lasts 5-10 days. Then, onto Phase 2: Cruise.

I'll explain this phase when the time comes. As for now, my concentration is on Phase 1: Attack. I weigh in on Tuesday, since this will be my official weigh in day every week. (Not to mention I need to go grocery shopping and supply myself with things I can eat.)

I'm in a competition to lose weight, sort of like "Biggest Loser". Jordan, Anna (my sis-in-law), Robert (my brother-in-law), and Karina (friend) have all agreed to put money into a pot. Whoever loses the most percentage of body fat by 12/21/2012 will win the pot of mullah and a new wardrobe for their new body. Great idea, no? I'm super excited.

Expect another post on Tuesday with my goals listed, my before picture, and more explanation about the Dukan Diet.
